Celebrating Delhi

Delhi a city of representation, a conglomeration of people from each and every corner of the country, all of these people put together bring out the real essence of the city. They integrate their culture, traditions and festivals into the city, making Delhi the unique city it is. Delhi, therefore, seems to be in a perpetual state of celebration, with people enjoying each others festivities as much as their own. That truly is the beauty of Delhi, where else can you see Hindus celebrating Eid, a Muslim celebrating Christmas, or a Christian enjoying the festivities of Diwali. Delhi is a a very tolerant and a united city, how else do you think that approximately 18 million people and rising, live with each other without hurting each other, on the contrary, Dilliwallahs live very harmoniously with each other. For most part of the year, the city is engulfed in festivities of the country.

Few festivals have moved beyond their communities of origin and are now celebrated by almost everyone in the city.

The most exciting time in Delhi surely is during the Christmas and Diwali celebrations. During Diwali, the people really do justice to the name, the festival of lights, as the entire capital is completely lit up, you would not see a building that is not beautifully decorated and ‘Diyas’ all around. The entire city comes together for this celebration, going to each others houses and giving sweets is the norm, but one drawback that probably comes out of this festival is the pollution. On Diwali and the day after, there is a cloud of smoke which engulfs the whole city, however over the years with various groups and kids being taught in school about the negativities of bursting crackers, pollution has been on a steady decline.

Another highly enjoyable festival in Delhi festival is Christmas; this festival must be referred as the party festival of the city. During Christmas party goers come out in full bloom to start the party week, people of all
